Walk Information

St Bega’s Way is a 36 mile (58 km) walk linking the Norman Priory Church of St Mary and St Bega at St Bees, on the Irish Sea coast, to the pre-Norman church of St Bega by the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, through rural West Cumbria and the magnificent scenery of the English Lake District.

The two churches of St Bega, and also that of St John, Bassenthwaite, will benefit from book proceeds. An inaugural walk took place on 3-5 May 2008. When significant route diversions are needed these are posted on the website http://www.stbegasway.org.uk/

As well as meeting the Coast to Coast and Cumbria Way, the Cumbria Coastal Way is easily linked from the start.

Guide Books
"St. Bega's Way" by Ros Downing - The booklet is available mail order at a price of £4 and all of this money goes to Church funds. The charge for postage and packing is at cost. Please send your name and address with a UK cheque for £4.75 (inc. p&p) made payable to Bassenthwaite PCC to St Bega's Way, "Langside", Bassenthwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 4QH

Mobile Digital Mapping
Digital maps can be viewed on most modern smartphones using an appropriate app, downloaded from the app store associated with your device. Brigantes recommend that whichever app you use, it should support Ordnance Survey 1:25k or 1:50k scale maps. There are many apps to choose from, but the two main providers are Ordnance Survey and Memory Map.

Each provider’s app has its own benefits, but both provide all-important offline navigation, meaning your device does not need a mobile signal to work effectively on the trail.
