Walk Information
The Derwent Valley Heritage Way is a 55 mile (88.5km) walk that explores the beauty and heritage of Derbyshire’s River Derwent.

The initiative for developing this walk came from the Derwent Valley Trust (www.nationalheritagecorridor.org.uk/).

Opened in 2003, the route follows the river from Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District National Park, via Chatsworth and the superb scenery of the Derbyshire Dales, before passing through the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Taking the Riverside Path through Derby, the Way continues through the historic port of Shardlow to journey’s end at Derwent Mouth, where the Derwent flows into the River Trent.

2 Replies to “Derwent Valley Heritage Way”

  1. Just completed a 4 day walk on the Derwent Valley Heritage Trail – hassle-free due to very good organisation and excellent accommodation booked by the team. Easy walk to follow with very clear waymarks (generally) and fairly level through wonderful scenery and great history. Springtime is a good time to go with banks of bluebells, wild garlic and gorse, and lots of lambs too.

  2. Susan and I want to thank you for completely exemplary service on our recent walk through the Derwent Valley (and if you want to take credit for the outstanding walking weather and spectacular spring greenery, we are happy to extend that, too).
You team picked up our luggage from the initial location without a hitch; in every case, bags arrived well ahead of our arrival on foot later in the day. The one smaller establishment we asked you to call, in Whatstandwell, said you did, and the proprietor was delighted by the arrangements, and intends to spread the word about your service.
    So will we.
Thanks to your whole team. This is a great new option for us for future UK travels, and we hope your capabilities will be more widely publicized so more walkers will do the Derwent Valley Heritage Way, with all its pleasures and charms, knowing they can arrange with Brigantes for brilliantly professional service, from your gracious initial response to our query through the final-day delivery of our goods.
THANK YOU for contributing so much to a wonderful vacation.
John and Susan, Lexington, Mass., U.S.A.
