Mobile Digital Mapping
Digital maps can be viewed on most modern smartphones using an appropriate app, downloaded from the app store associated with your device. Brigantes recommend that whichever app you use, it should support Ordnance Survey 1:25k or 1:50k scale maps. There are many apps to choose from, but the two main providers are Ordnance Survey and Memory Map.

Each provider’s app has its own benefits, but both provide all-important offline navigation, meaning your device does not need a mobile signal to work effectively on the trail.

  1. We have just completed our sixth Inn Way assisted by Brigantes booking all the accommodation and transferring our baggage and yet again we had a really great walking holiday, this time exploring the Peak District for the first time. As has become our practice, Annette helped us break up some of the longer days walk so we took 8 rather than 6 days to complete the circuit and this time we chose to start our walk from a different place than given by Mark Reid, Hathersage rather than Hayfield. This worked well for us and climbing Win Hill on the last day allowed us to view so much of our previous week’s walking – a real bonus. For the first time we downloaded Brigantes .gpx route using the ViewRanger app that we already had on my smart phone and this proved a helpful back up tool and saved us a lot of time inputting the route ourselves. As usual, the accommodation was varied in character but all was clean, staff really friendly and food good, if not excellent. Our walk was in early July, when we found the Peak District very busy in places but fortunately the route also included some less popular but equally attractive sections where we saw few other people. We were lucky to have almost perfect walking weather and largely dry ground conditions, so in that respect our timing was good.

  2. We did the Inn Walk to the Peak District in June 2019. This was our 5th walking holiday in England and in spite of the rather cool and rainy weather, it was the best ever. Organisation by Brigantes was perfect and as we wanted to see Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, Annette made a special itinerary for us with enough time for that houses and convenient distances to walk. Accomodation was really fine, some cosy old inns, superb B&B or nice country hotels with very friedly and helpful service. The landscape in the Peak District is unbelievable contrasting and beautiful and you could walk for hours in peace and quiet without meeting more than a few people so it makes a welcome change to have a chat with some friendly local in the pub after dinner. By the way, english food is much better than regarded in Europe.
    In short – GREAT HOLIDAYS!
Martina and Franz, Rosmarie and Wolfgang

  3. Many thanks for your superb organising of our Inn Walk to the Peak District. Super B&Bs and a good efficient baggage service made for a great walking holiday in wonderful scenery. We shall certainly come to Brigantes again. Annie Barrell and Paddy Dean. October 2018
