Mobile Digital Mapping
Digital maps can be viewed on most modern smartphones using an appropriate app, downloaded from the app store associated with your device. Brigantes recommend that whichever app you use, it should support Ordnance Survey 1:25k or 1:50k scale maps. There are many apps to choose from, but the two main providers are Ordnance Survey and Memory Map.

Each provider’s app has its own benefits, but both provide all-important offline navigation, meaning your device does not need a mobile signal to work effectively on the trail.

  1. A friend and I finished our version of this walk yesterday, 70 miles over 9 days. Absolutely amazing scenery, it is a very strenuous walk, with plenty of up hill (and down) every day from one dale to the next. We are both highly delighted in what we did, and lots of memories from a very beautiful walk. Would recommend to anyone who has done the Dales Way and wants a fresh perspective on the Yorkshire Dales. You will not be disappointed I’m sure.

We wanted a Dales walk, and looked to Annette and Brigantes again, after a very enjoyable Dales Way with them last year, and excellent service through Covid, we wanted to use them again. Like last year highly delighted with the service, friendliness and support by them. We would recommend Brigantes to any of our friends. Hopefully next year if both fit and able, we will look to see if we can match up to another of their walks.

  2. We have just completed the Inn Way and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We booked our own accommodation and were happy with all the pubs and B & Bs where we stayed, though they had different strengths and weaknesses. We started and ended at Askrigg and would recommend that to others if convenient. Mark Reid’s book is full of useful information but an Ordnance Survey map is essential to supplement it. After a rainy spell (not unusual in the Yorkshire Dales) the ground was seriously wet in places and it was necessary to work out alternative routes to Mark Reid’s suggestions for certain sections. Brigantes were brilliant; they delivered our baggage with great efficiency.

  3. We have just completed the Yorkshire Dales Inn Way and used Brigantes for the transportation of our luggage each day. The walk was fantastic and the service provided by Brigantes was first class. I can highly recommend the Yorkshire Dales Inn Way as a walk showing off all the beauty and diversity of the Dales, but should mention that maps are essential as it isn’t a specifically waymarked route. I also wholeheartedly recommend Brigantes for the excellent service provided. Thank you!

  4. Just completed the Inn Way to the Dales 9th June 2018, amazing walk used Mark Reid’s guide book which is an excellent book but you do need the os maps as well . Booked everything through Brigantes who made our holiday from the taxi ride with Bosh & Becks taxi to the accommodation and bag transfer a very big thank you to Annette and her team for making this walking holiday one we will remember for a long time.

  5. My wife and I, plus flatcoated retriever Elska, have just co pelted the Dales Innway. We made the accommodation bookings ourselves but Brigantes transferred our bags. Their service was excellent. We never saw the courier once but our bags were always at our next point of call on time. I would have no hesitation in using Brigantes again.

  6. My wife and I used Brigantes to book our lodging as well as to transport our luggage from inn to inn (The Inn Way) in late June 2017. The inns they selected for us were top notch and our luggage was always at the inn before we arrived. The process was very simple: You arrived and your bags were either already in our room or waiting for us downstairs. When we left the inn, we deposited our bags at the location the innkeeper told us and that was it. Even though we had crummy weather, we enjoyed the hikes and certainly the whole Yorkshire Dales experience. As former cartographers, we enjoyed taking different routes, where we could, following the OS maps! Brigantes comes highly recommended by us!!

Just finished the Inn Way which was a really lovely walk in the Yorkshire Dales. We arranged the walk ourselves because now in our 70’s wanted to reduce the mileage each day to ones we felt comfortable with. The baggage transfers were excellent. It was always a relief to arrive at the B&B and find them there. Thank you so much for helping to make the holiday a wonderful experience.

  8. A group of 6 of us did the Inn Way to the Dales in May 2017.The trip itself was fantastic but the service provided by Brigantes was brilliant. Our baggage was collected in the Market Place at Grassington on the first day, and delivered to our accommodation for that night. This was repeated every day of our trip. On the last day we were running late and contacted Brigantes who agreed to drop our bags off an hour later. In addition to the courier service on the walk, Brigantes told us that one of the hotels we were booked into had closed and gave us alternatives and they gave us advice on where to park the cars for the week. A fantastic service. Thanks a lot.

  9. Brigantes did an excellent job moving my baggage around Herriot Way in October 2016. I would happily use them again.

  10. We did the Herriot Way last week & loved it. Good weather helped but the route is really good, incredibly scenic & varied. All the B&B’s that Brigantes found for us were very good & the luggage transfer was seamless. I am now planning our next Dales walk!

  11. Just returned from Inn Way walk, Yorkshire Dales. All accommodation booked by Brigantes top drawer and luggage always there before we were. A great trouble-free experience and would recommend anyone to use Brigantes.

  12. Just a note to say we are home after our very lovely holiday doing the James Herriot Way. We had a superb time and all wish to thank you and your drivers for the safe transfer of our baggage each day, it all went extremely smoothly and we are very grateful. Please can you pass on our thanks to the driver/s too Annette, we never see them but they do a wonderful job for us! Yorkshire Dales looked as wonderful as usual and we were lucky to see a stoat at very close quarters and 2 short eared owls hunting on Great Shunner Fell. The villages all seemed to have an extra bit of ‘gloss’ to them with the Tour memorabilia still in evidence and it was obvious everyone had gone to a lot of trouble to make it all that bit more special.

  13. We had a wonderful holiday with perfect weather. All bookings and transfers were trouble free. Thanks so much for your service and help.

  14. Thank you once again for an excellent service by Brigantes. It is always comforting to know that our bags will arrive safely at our destinations. We hope to use you again in the future.

  15. Many thanks for your efficient service over the August bank holiday when I walked the Herriot Way. I hope to use your firm again in the future – I just have to work out which trail to do next

  16. Just a note to say thank you for making the Inn Way such an enjoyable walk as without you it would have been one hard slog with our bags on our backs! We had a great week and the weather was kind to us.Thanks again for the wonderful service you give.

  17. Thanks once again for doing a fantastic job for us this year on the Yorks Dales Inn Way. We really appreciate knowing that our luggage will be there waiting for us at our destination. We look forward to booking with you again and always recommend you to people we meet. Thanks also for all your help and advice. Fortunately, the walking went very smoothly and we managed all the long days without relying on transport.

  18. Many thanks again for organising our holiday – all baggage transfer was excellent, as was the accommodation – particuarly Aysgarth and Keld. Pity about the weather, but this is the Dales!

  19. I cannot believe it is just about 1 month ago that we did the James Herriot Way using your lovely caravan! (Jo and Lindsey with the collie dogs, we met you briefly in Thwaite when we were most bedraggled after the rain!!). We loved the walk so much that we are hoping to do the Coast to Coast next, probably in stages though as work and family commitments make that the easier choice so watch out as we will be hoping to use your excellent service again!! You have been warned!!!

  20. I just want to confirm that everything worked perfectly so that we had a wonderful walking experience in the Yorkshire Dales. There will be (hopefully) another time on another route – with Brigantes. Thanks to all of you.
