The Yorkshire Wolds Way

Total distance 79 miles/127km, starting at Hessle, and finishing in Filey.

Depending on your walking pace, fitness, and how much you want to see along the way, allow between four and seven days to complete it.

The Wolds Way is probably the least well-know of our national Trails, but its very quietness and lack of commercialism are proving to be its principal attributes. The route, which follows the crescent of chalk uplands stretching from Hessle on the banks of the Humber in the South, northwards to Filey Brigg, was designated a national trail more than 21 years ago. In the nearby Dales, and the North York Moors National Parks, footpath erosion is a growing problem, but here, meeting a fellow walker is rare enough to be an event, There are big fields on the Wold tops, and enormous skies, but when you drop into dry valleys, you enter a different world. A walk along the Wolds Way is a completely different experience to what is found in the Lakes or the Dales, and this walk is ideal for those looking for what they hope will be gentler introduction to multi-day walking. The Yorkshire Wolds Way offers good walking for anyone, It is relatively low level, and definitely not a ”challenge” walk, but a satisfying experience, and a good holiday.
