Walk Information
The Tributaries Walk is a circular walk which takes either six or seven days. It starts in Ingleton and finishes in Malham if you're walking for six days, or back in Ingleton if you have time to walk the seventh day. If you only walk the six day route, Brigantes will shuttle you and your luggage between the two villages. We will also park your vehicle in our secure location for the duration of your walk.
The traditional six-day route is approximately 80 miles (130 km) long with an overall height gain of around 11,800 feet (3,600 m). The toughest day is also the final day; at 16 miles (25.7 km) long with two climbs during the day totalling approximately 2,500 feet (762 m) of ascent.
The seven-day circular route involves a total of approximately 96 miles (155 km) with an overall height gain of around 14,500 feet (4,420 m). Again the toughest day is also the final day; at around 17 miles (27.4 km) and has two climbs early in the day with a total ascent of 2,800 feet (853 m).
The shorter, six day walk, is also supported with the same facilities. A shuttle from Malham to Ingleton early on the first day replaces the seventh walking day.
On Day Three, the walk includes an ascent of Great Shunner Fell, the third highest hill in Yorkshire, and although this involves a long steady climb, it is not steep, the path is generally good and is even paved for long sections to protect the peat bogs.
The walk should be well within the limitations of a regular walker or someone with a good level of fitness. The individual day walks themselves are not too arduous, but the fact that they come one after the other in quick succession does mean you need to be adequately prepared.
A new guide book is now available for this walk, written by Stuart W. Greig and entitled "The Tributaries Walk" and is available from the official website below.
