Places of Interest

The Yorkshire Dales National Park - Established in 1954, the Yorkshire Dales National Park has outstanding scenery, a range of wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage.

The North Yorkshire Moors National Park - The North York Moors (also known as the North Yorkshire Moors) is a national park in North Yorkshire, England. The moors are one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the United Kingdom.

The Lake District National Park - England's largest National Park includes Scafell - its highest mountain, Wastwater - its deepest lake, as well as coastline and thriving towns and villages like Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere.

Malhamdale.com - Malham is a small village, in the Pennines, at the southern base of the Yorkshire Dales. It's a pretty place, surrounded by limestone dry-stone walls, & with a stream running right through the middle of the village.

Walking Publications and Websites

Innway publications - A series of walking guidebooks by Mark Reid that cover the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, the North Yorks Moors, the Peak District and Northumberland.

The Herriot Way - A website that supports the "Walking the Herriot Way" guide book. Written by Stuart W. Greig, providing walking notes and hand-drawn maps for both clockwise and anti-clockwise walkers of the very popular four-day walk through the Dales, following in the footsteps of the famous vet.

Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk - described in the Trailblazer Guidebook to the C2C as "an extensive and cleanly designed website that's not trying too hard to do everything or sell you something". Lots of useful information on walking the most popular path in England.

The Tributaries Walk - A website that supports our very own long-distance path. A path devised by us and perfect for anyone wanting to see the best of the Yorkshire Dales. There is now a dedicated guide book too, written by Stuart W. Greig and available directly from Brigantes, or through the walk's website.

Walking Books - Your one-stop-shop for walking guides, maps and books on Britain's best scenic walks.

Bay 2 Bay - Two fine, uncrowded walks from the middle of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, each walk is almost exactly 100 miles. Two colourful guidebooks that lead you across the country to the West or East Coast. They also have a Facebook site with additional information and regular updates: Grassington to the Coasts on Facebook.

Walk4Life - The Walk4Life website is totally FREE and has thousands of walk ideas all over the Britain. The website uses OS maps which can easily be printed out at home. You can also keep a track of the walks you have done and set yourselves a target!

Selected Accommodation

Beck Hall in Malham - Beck Hall was built in 1710 and has been providing accommodation since the 1930's. Changes over the years mean that there are now 11 guest bedrooms, 9 double en-suite rooms and 2 twin room.

Bed & Breakfast Great Ayton - Superb accommodation offered in a large detached house surrounded by just under an acre of beautiful gardens.

The Byrness - Family run Bed and Breakfast situated directly on the Penine Way.

Newton Grange B&B - provides first class holiday accommodation in a delightful rural setting, 6 miles from Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. Our beautifully restored Georgian Manor House sits at the heart of extensive gardens and farmland, and provides a wonderful place to relax.

Dentdale Walking Festival - more than 30 walks led by local experts and exploring the best of Dentdale, from riverside strolls and village explorers to strenuous climbs on the surrounding fells.

The Pennine Way Association - a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. It was founded in 1971 as “a focus of public interest” in Britain’s first and finest long distance footpath. They liase with environmental organisations such as Natural England and National Park Authorities to ensure the integrity of this remarkable National Trail.
