This 89 mile circular tour starts in the market town of Helmsley and takes six days to complete calling at 31 traditional Yorkshire pubs en route. The North York Moors are a walkers' paradise and this route encompasses the very best of the area's paths and tracks. From the ecclesiastical treasures of Kirkdale Minster and the Lastingham Crypt to dramatic glacial meltwater channels, expansive heather moorland, picturesque villages, hidden valleys and windswept ridges The Inn Way...to the North York Moors will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and exhilarated.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1: Helmsley to Hutton-le-Hole - 14 miles.

Helmsley's 'impregnable' castle, a thatched inn at Harome, the Vale of Pickering, Kirkdale's Saxon Minster, forest tracks and hidden mills, a Surprise View across the North York Moors and arguably the prettiest village in England.

Day 2: Hutton-le-Hole to Levisham - 13 miles

Lastingham's Holy wells and unique Norman crypt, brewing barrels of beer at Cropton, Roman training camps, the spectacular glacial gorge of Newton Dale and the evocative sound of a steam train's whistle.

Day 3: Levisham to Egton Bridge- 15 miles

Precipitous cliffs and breath-taking views across Newton Dale, expansive heather moorland and Bronze Age burial mounds on Two Howes Rigg, a famous TV policeman, the ancient game of quoits, a classic country pub at Beck Hole and the village missed by the Reformation

Day 4: Egton Bridge to Rosedale Abbey - 15 miles

Paved pannierways through ancient woodland, a 'romantic' stone packhorse bridge, the pretty village hidden' amongst the twigs', a dramatic bird's eye view of Great Fryup Dale, walking over paved trods across the moors - the Motorways of the Middle Ages, ironstone relics and railways and the ruins of Rosedale ' s Priory.

Day 5: Rosedale Abbey to Hawnby - 16 miles

The secluded valleys of Farndale and Bransdale, heather-clad ridges, the mill built by a multi-lingual Reverend, the 16th century thatched Spout House pub in Bilsdale, England's most unusual cricket pitch and the Tale of Two Villages of Hawnby.

Day 6: Hawnby to Helmsley - 16 miles

The Tabular Hills of Ryedale, a hidden nunnery at Arden Hall, primeval oak forests, the ancient drovers' road of Hambleton Street, a Celtic hill fort, the finest view in England across the Vale of York and the magnificent monastic ruins of Rievaulx.
